Gents:

     In the most glaring example of irony at the end of that war, the Yagi-Uda antenna was included on the Little Boy weapon as part of the radio altimeter circuit that triggered the detonation of the first atomic bomb over Japan.

P.S.  That same issue of IEEE Transactions has an article about a 20M Yagi with a 100-foot long boom.  It was actually several collinear Rohn towers, pointed toward Asia from California, with several of the Yagi's elements atop each tower.
