That's true to a degree, but unlike TACAN, where the azimuth data is
amplitude modulation on the omnidirectional UHF carrier by rotating dipoles, the
azimuth data in the older system (what was the system called, anyway?) was morse
code. And pattern distortion that didn't lose the entire signal on one heading
wouldn't affect the accuracy.
