Groups,

I replaced my Sprague TO-6A with a ZM-3A/U Capacitor Analyzer. The unit
works fine (after a minor mod so that I don't have to hold the meter switch in the
mA position for capacitor reforming). Looks great, too. The only problem is
that when I put it in its operating position on the shelf over the work
bench, I discovered that in several places on the dial drum, the shellac coating
over the scales has bubbled and due to relative position of lighting and drum
makes reading the scale difficult. Hardly noticable unless you look for it with
the unit sitting on the bench.

I twice tried to buy another complete unit in similar or better cosmetic
condition but lost out both times. So I'm looking for a replacement drum that
looks new, with smooth coating over-all. I have a complete parts unit but the
drum in it has other issues (several holes through the scale for unknown reasons
and in general not as nice as the one I want to replace, other than that the
shellac isn't bubbled). As removing the drum doesn't look like a trivial
excercise, I would buy a complete parts unit if necessary. Or just the drum.
Condition of the rest of the parts unit would not matter so long as the drum and
scales were free of flaws.

There was at least one other contractor who built ZM-3A's. No way of telling
whether their drums are identical to the Ecco ones, other than the hard way.

On a related subject, I'm also looking for the outer carrying case. Don't
know why but except for one belonging to another list member, all that I've seen
or heard of recently are less transit case. Which means there must be some
floating around. Case is gray, probably heavy, and has "Capacitor Analyzer
ZM-3A/U" in black letters on the removable front cover.
