I was lucky enough to get one of those neatly modified R-65/APN-9 units.  The whole mod appears professionally done.  Got it from John Meshna's warehouse 30 years ago, just as an interesting relic.  LORAN A was still in operation then, but the 400 cps power requirement kept me from firing it up.

When I was stationed on a Royal Netherlands Navy destroyer (HRMS Amsterdam) 33 years ago, an AN/APN-9 was installed at the navigator's work area.   (Although in northern Europe, we used the Decca Navigator system instead of LORAN A).
