[Milsurplus] surplus B 17s, one story

I read an article about the guy that bought a B 17 right after the war 
in Arizona and flew it to Oregon where he mounted it above his gas 
station. He just showed up, bought it (for under $1000 as I recall)  
and attempted to fly it. His only prior flight experience was in single 
engine private aircraft. He crashed the B 17 he bought right at the 
airfield, ground looped it or something like that. The govt guys took 
pity on him and just gave him a free replacement which he successfully 
flew home.
