Joe -
Sorry to hear the matching transformer was missing from the LS-3. You still
made out great. As I recall, the output of the BC-342 and like receivers
were high impedance, mostly intended to drive a set of headphones.
Consequently, the speaker within the LS-3 was a low impedance speaker, more
in line with today's and even 50 year old radios. A lot of fellows removed
the transformer so they could use the set with more modern radios. One thing
you could do, rather inexpensively, is to get a speaker from a computer and
use the amplifier from it to drive the LS-3. This is the way you learn. Hope
all is well with you and your family. Regards - Mike

Subject: Re: [Milsurplus] LS-3 Speaker
I bought an LS-3 speaker several weeks ago and just opened it up today. It
turns out the
matching transformer is missing. What kind of matching transformer do I need
to use this with a
BC-342 or BC-348? Is there any commonly available substitute?
As a matter of curiosity, why did people remove these matching transformers?
This is the 2nd
LS-3 that I bought that turned out to be missing the matching transformer.
As always, thank you.
