But the TDE (and all Navy xmtrs, really) use keying relays.
Conditioning would be done internally after the relay.
My concern is that the "characteristic sound" of the WW2 keying would be
"smoothed out," making it sound fairly modern and clean.

This really affects only CW operation...  the AM crowd is
muttering, "Huh?"   :-)
