Not much else to comment on here except have you tried a series
resistor-capacitor key-click filter across the key? I had one of these
things on my Novice rig in the 60s (didn't want a second Pink Slip from
Uncle Charlie.) Just a simple 100k resistor and, I think, 0.1 uF paper cap
in series across key terminals. Main advantages are no mods needed to the
rig/key and easy to play around with component values. Also, possibly
something that RO's from the Ham population in WWII might have figgered out
for themselves.
