I had an AT-271A antenna with three of the sections where the male end was rusted through above the brass sleeve and the brass sleeve was split/cracked and unsalvageable. So I removed the nylon cord at the tip, disassembled the antenna, cleaned it up as best can, cut off the bad section ends, got some brass tubing at a local hobby shop which specializes in trains, cut some sections, split them so they fit snugly, scraped the paint off, soldered the ends on, filed everything smooth, made sure it was a tight fit, restrung the nylon cord, and touched up the paint. A works great antenna only ~3" shorter than originally. (that can be compensated for). On the sections which were OK but loose, I resisted the urge to just whack the female section "to oval it a little" and instead coated the male end with a little solder.
I just wanted to see if it could be decently fixed, so don't tell me they are available at xyz for $10, free shipping.
