The USN later used

My pilot son took me for a Dobbins Navy Flying Club T-34 spin over N.
Ga. perhaps
4 years back
There were 2 radios. One mil UHF, maybe that ARC-12. & other looked new
& was
an afterthot install to right of front seat. Was only one used & guess
Dobbins had
both VHF & UHF in tower.
This was before a ga warbird incident where a ex-EAL guy flew the wings
off one &
grounded the T-34s.
Great trip, flew over Cohuttas. Landed @ McCollum (civ arpt) in 40 mph
x-wind. T34
flown onto runway hot after tower guy gave "airman's choice." He did come
back & say
OoooKay T34!
Son asked me what I liked best about trip & my response was that when u
thru master
switch, battery said 24V! Shameless dweeb response.
Fella now 24 & flys Pawnee for 10-20 glider lifts per day @ Boulder, CO.
Other Pawnee
flown by 19 yr-old U of CO soph. gal! Geezers that used to operate there
all now have
medicals & acft losses (ugh) that makes whole op'n currently "kid stuff."
(pilots commute
on mountain bikes)
And Boulder a challenge with a trailing tow-rope. Have to approach high &
fast to clear
fence @ runway end. Then big-time slip to get down & stop w/o having to
do a turn-around
for next customer. Turn-around eats lotsa time & O-540 gas.
