Just my guess, Mark, but I can't see spending
the time and effort to TRY to restore this
to original. I'd say it's too far gone for that.
I never used the receiver portion, but still
have the transmitter portion I mounted to a
19" rack panel back in 1962 for my wife to
use with her Novice ticket in Sacramento, CA.
I put vernier dials on all four of the tuning
capacitors plus a crystal socket and a tuning
meter on the panel. Quite similar to what
you have but I think mine looks a whole lot
nicer!!
The receiver was also crystal control and was,
just as the transmitter was, auto-controlled
for four freuencies. All parts of the auto-tune
mechanisms were removed for ham use, as
the ham could manually tune as needed, rather
than just select a pre-tuned channel as the
pilot of fighters did in flight.

Folks --
I've acquired an SCR-522 that's been modified for 2M Amateur Radio use. It
was sitting in someone's basement for probably 40 years.
I'm having trouble finding good reference materials on the web to help me
determine if the unit is in restorable condition. I'm finding some photos
that show the unit was in one large case, and I'm having trouble
correlating those and my unit.
I think the Transmitter part is complete. I'm not that sure about the
receiver though; I thought it was crystal controlled, yet mine has a VFO --
maybe this was a modification for 2M. Pictures are at
http://www.k3msb.com/scr522/main522.html
I'm not interested in using this as a 2M AM unit per se; rather I'd like to
restore it back to original condition as much as possible and still be able
to use it on 2M for demo purposes.
Thanks & 73
Mark K3MSB
