For that matter, when an inactive ship facility ship was later designated to be used as a target, it often went to the bottom with completely stocked tool chests, supply parts, navigation equipment, radio rooms, mess ware, and most of everything else that was current when the ship was originally removed from service. Even if someone had cannibalized some useful equipment earlier, a lot of historically interesting gear and documents were lost. Shame.
