One issue not yet brought up is the durability of the TCS Vs other radios. 
The specifications were for extremely rugged use under battlefield conditions 
that included some redundant systems. 

The idea was the transmitter and receiver were to function in a very basic 
and reliable way. 

I have talked to W.W.II and post war operators ... who were fairly skilled at 
the radios operation, and most of them considered the TCS very durable radio, 
when others were useless junk on the battlefield. 

I'm not saying the TCS was the best system at the time, but that it had a 
long and useful service life.
