I recently recovered this letter which i received from R W Koch of California,
in 1979, after i bought an RS-6 from him. Excerpts:
"Along with this letter we have enclosed an article [ precursor to his later
'Air Classics' magazine article, 'Operation Armageddong' ] concerning but
one of the uses of the RS-6 radio, though it had many and was used by the
CIA and US Army. In fact, it was a standard clandestine issue radio station
for any activity that called for a small, compact, long range station.
"They are quite rare today and in years to come will undoubtedly be worth
quite a bit due to their background. The sets were built by Motorola and
their US Govt plant in Tucson has in its library a highly detailed
maintenance catalog. [ What's that? - H M ] If you can contact them they
might xerox copies for you.
"The combat ready radios for Curtis LeMay's [ A ham radio enthusiast too!
Did that factor into the inception of the RS-6 ? -H M ] SAC had small nicad
batteries as part of the rig but later they opted for the hand-cranked
generator. Fortunately the RS-6 didn't have to be utilized as envisaged
by SAC......." [ =Operation Armageddon, WWIII ]."
Just thought some of ye might be interested....
