Hi Gang:
Most of the SRR-11,12,13 that I saw were in Naval Reserve stations. But
from what I was told the RB* were replaced by the R-390's then
came The R-1051's.
My experience too. The 1051s came in with tone diversity multiplex over the
UCC-1V with KG7, KG14, and KG37 encriptors. If the drift was more than 3
cycles it all went to garble but the synthesized 1051 could hang in with
that. The R390A was still used for voice and CW comms. We usually used
URC-32 as just another RX for RTTY because the TX side did not handle the
RTTY duty cycle well.
Great Lakes ET school in 1964 still taught the SRT-14/15/16 and SRR series
but more often than not what was encountered was SRT/R390A then by the late
'60s it was WRT/R1051 ( or R390a/CV591 still for some ssb comms) when the
Nav went SSB and tone mux. The TCS got deep sixed for the General Dynamics
WRC-1 that looked like a stack of R1051s( RX, Exciter, ant tuner, Amp).
All in all I think until the SSB change a S**t load of older gear hung in
until the Vietnam era.
