I was in Navy-Marine Corps MARS from 1968 to 1982. I remember there being
equipment available for issue only in the first couple of years I was a
member. I took delivery of about five items: PRC-6, PRC-34, PRC-36,
ARR-15, and a SRR-13A, the last obtained in 1970. For each I had to sign a
DD-??? form that had a serial number recorded on it. The equipment was
subject to be returned to the MARS system if the member left, unless
cannibalization had been authorized. Many times in the late 1960s other
members in my state were called upon to pick up equipment from members
leaving.

I do not think the Army and Air Force MARS in the late 1960s exercised
control over equipment issue anything like the way NAVMARCOR MARS did.

In the mid-1970s I finally received copies of my signed equipment issue
forms, stamped with a statement that that equipment accountability had been
dropped.
