My TM 11-850 (September 1946) goes on to say "and in BC-342 - HX, N, M, and 
NX Models."

Adding the audio mute in other 312 and 342 models should cause no problems if 
the relay contacts are available.   Note that shielded wire is used in those 
models where the feature was originally included.
