Could it be an Autoalarm receiver? Back in the good old days ships were
required to monitor the 500 kHz distress frequency. If there was only one
radio operator, when (he) (she) went off duty the Autoalarm receiver was
turned on and monitored 500 kHz. A series of long dashes would trip the
alarm and wake up the op. Only trouble with my theory is that the 1195 kHz
crystal is not consistent with 500 kHz reception unless the IF is 740 kHz
rather than 455 kHz? !
