Dave,
Hell's bells. You only need less than a foot of cable. If $2.45 is too much
to spend you don't even want to know what the 9-pin female connectors
currently go for (roughly 18x that).
Cable WM-46/U (#18-10 shielded) is a reasonable substitute for the original
cable. It's about the same OD. You do not need #12 AWG for all of the
conductors. But you can expect to pay over $2 per foot for it. Have you checked the
cost of copper lately? Single conductor 1/0 is pushing $3/foot with 100 foot
minimum. I've got to buy several hundred feet to hook up my 45 KW generator
to the house.
The cables, when you can find them, are around $50-$60 each. They seldom
turn up. But that's about what a tank of gasoline costs today, and usually less
than dinner for two.
