Wonder what hams said back when they outlawed spark gap? This is the end of our hobby! No more pure AC note, what’s the world coming to. Have to use those tube things and frequencies above two hundred meters? What would happen if all those tube things broke and no one knew how to build a rotary spark transmitter any more? 
I became a ham over twenty years ago out of technical interest, my work with military equipment is more technical then operational, and if I were only concerned with functionality it would be hard to beat modern radios. But this is a large hobby with space for everyone, operators, historians and engineers.
