wing area.

Subject: [Milsurplus] B-24 antennas

One of our list members made mention about the antennas on the side of
the B-24, i think it was on each side of the nose section.

Well i've got a tech order AN 01-5EE-1 which is Pilots Flight Operating
Instructions for Army Models B-24G ,H and J, Navy Model PB4Y-1 and
British Model Liberator GRV1 and BV1 Airplanes. 30 Nov. 1944. This
particular issue is stamped for airplane 44-51337 and has a lot of pink
pages which are revision pages covering modifications to the airplane
accomplished subsequent to dispersal from the Prime Contractors plant.

  WARNING

The AAF airplane serial number is stamped on the front cover of this
book. Under no circumstances will this book be transferred to another
airplane as the pink revision sheets herein have been inserted t cover
modifications to this airplane and no other. On this forward page
someone has written B-24M-30-FO. "M" model of the B-24, block 30 type
construction and FO meaning a Ford plant or contract.

Electronic wise it covers the installation of the SCR-522 radio,
Installation of Radio Set ARI-5083 which is British equipment, 4
channel type which can only be operated at the Navigators position, the
RC-103 radio receiver with 6 fixed channel crystal controlled frequency
and is associated with the ARN-5, the AN/ARN-5 glide path receiver with
antenna assembly AS-61/ARN-5 on top of the aircraft forward of station
0.3 and left of centerline,. Interphone system AN/AIC-2 with 10 mic's
of the T-30 type and HS-33 headsets and BC-1366 jack boxes, and
installation of RCM equipment which is composed of:

2 antennas AS/69/APT
1 antenna AS-65/APQ-2A
2 antennas AT-36/APT *
2 antennas AT-37/APT *
2 antennas AT-38/APT * +
2 antennas AT-41/APT *
2 antennas AT-42/APT *
2 antennas AT-43/APT *
1 antenna AS-33/APT
1 antenna AS-49/APT +
1 antenna AS-89/ART **
1 antenna AS-97/ART **
1 antenna AS-150/ART **
1 antenna AS-16/ART **

ANtennas were mounted at various points around the aircraft of course.
Thos indicated with the asterisk above were mounted at station 3.2 on
the left and right side of the airplane.

Antennas (anyone of the group) marked with the Plus (+) sign above were
mounted at station 3.2 on the bottom of the airplane on the centerline.

Antenna AS-65/APQ-2A is mounted at station 2.1 aft and to the right of
the nose wheel opening.

Antennas marked with the double asterisk (**) are made at station 7.3
on the top centerline of the airplane. Any one of those 4 may be
instaled there.

There are no pictures of these antennas but i may have in one of my
B-24 manuals pages showing the frame locations so i can pinpoint better
just where they are, especially those indicated with the asterisk on
the list  above.

Don't know if this helps any but maybe it's a start.
