You folks saw this, right?
It has to be good for the hobby, i think.
Including our subculture.
More green machines on the air; and maybe more room to air them,
too.

Well in GB, not only has the code, or Morse, been eliminated we also
eliminated all need to actually know anything about, well, anything. We now have
operators who even on the CB bands would have been 'lids' so in this wonderful
backwater of humanity its now trice difficult to get a conversation on any
topic.
The usual trend is to have to call CQ for about 4 times, then, after a
lengthy pregnant pause, some Class B who never made the grade or one of the 'new'
tickets gives you a call and then has the gaul to tell you he felt sorry for
you, hearing as he did all your CQ's, he thought he'd do you the great favour
of giving you a call to tell you your signal was 'getting out' ! Having
quoted his name rank and serial number of the plastic radio he bids you goodbye.
What was stopping him calling after the first CQ ?
Then we have those who, until recently, were unable to use the world of hf,
restricted as they were to the inter town bands of vhf fm 19 inch whips and
repeater qso's, but who are now, in the space of a parsec, authorities on hf,
ex military sets, AM, aerials, 'Operating procedure' and just about
everything. Move over Mr Hawkins.
So, good for the hobby ? I have yet to see how save for the commercial
interest in Japan and the UK taxman. More 'operators', more plastic Japanese rigs
sold, more VAT paid, QED.
