I have never cared for ambroid.  Turns yellow and brittle.  Epoxy is 
nearly as bad.  Superglue makes for a far too brittle connection too.

I would try Super Goo or Shoe Goo.  That stuff is formulated to glue 
soles back onto footwear.  It has terrific holding power, will not go 
brittle, and seems to last.  Apply sparingly and apply to both 
surfaces.  Use it like you would contact cement.
