Tom,

The answer to the first question is as long the the vehicles it was installed
in remained in service and didn't get a radio set upgrade.

Although I've only seen a few original US BC-739's as best I can recall they
were all the same as this 1943 one sitting here on the desk. Differences
between it and the Italian one eBay are:

On the US one, control functions or legends are engraved and white filled.
Finish is semigloss instead of wrinkle. On the face holding a switch and
volume control knob, the legend is INT & RADIO instead or R.508 and AN/VRC-3. On
the face with only a volume control knob, the US one has a microphone and
earphone cord coming out through two holes to the left of the knob whereas the
Italian one has a bushed hole for interphone cable. On the face with the phone
and mic jacks, the US one has two holes for interphone cable whereas the Italian
one has only one. On the remaining face, the US one has only the two screw
heads showing whereas the Italian one has a second switch labeled INT. and
R.508.

R.508 is probably short for SCR-508. If it means R-508/ARC (p/o AN/ARC-60) I
don't know why they would only want to switch the receiver and not the
transmitter. What the internal wiring differences are I couldn't say.
