Give me time ;-). I'm coming to find that the history of
the SCR-183/283 (which is inextricably interwoven
with that of the GF/RU)
is a lot more complicated than that of the "ATA/ARA-274N-ARC5."
For one thing, they were in service at least as long
as the later sets- probably longer, but I can't document just yet.

That's a shame, because they are direct "kith and kin."
The drawings for the earlier sets are almost mirror images.
One was the direct "knock-off" of
the other in their early versions, though which one is not
quite yet settled. The Navy got to improve their set, because
they had sterner requirements and because
they got the lion's share of the money until October of 1940;
the Army had to get by on the crumbs until then.
If it hadn't been for McAurther threatening to quit as
Roosevelt's early Chief of Staff, I'd bet the Air Corps
would have gone up to Pearl Harbor with the SCR-134!

And working a timeline for these is
more challenging than the later sets. It's' turning
into quite a chore.
