Back in about 1947 there was an article in QST
which gave the instructions for an underground antenna.
Well, someone was digging a trench just outside my
windows at work, so I made a folded dipole out of
high-power twin lead, and buried it about 2 feet deep.
It must have been the April edition.  Maybe if I had
used a tuner it would have cancelled the dirt effect.
