[Milsurplus] Mica capacitors?

Hi,
We do use the orange drops for recapping the R-390A. Work great, and there
is room to put them in. Wish I had known about the axial lead variety,
would have used them. No modifications, just replacement of poor quality
(liable to fail) parts. Especially the blocking cap for the mechanical
filter.

I concur Robert, anytime I see a replacement part that is obviously
new or otherwise out of place in an old piece of gear, I investigate
further. As you say, it's a clear indication that someone was in
there, most likely from a civilian standpoint.
SBE did make axial lead caps but they were smaller value or voltage as
I recall. They are about the size of a 5 watt carbon resistor. Still
have a bunch of them somewhere. But the vast majority use the same
equipment that the originals were built on, giving them more of a
radial style. Fortunately the leads are usually long enough to work.
The biggest issue I've had with them is making them fit in tight
places.
Recently SBE has developed a new type of cap used in electric vehicles
and it's really taking off. Good for them, because for a long time
they struggled to stay afloat.
I'll mention the color issue to Ed and see what he says. Never hurts to try.
