Growing up during WW2, we had about a half mile of telephone line
installed on those insulators on 12 foot cedar posts between the
house and the nearest Bell Telephone presence. I had to replace a
few which were the object of target practice, so I knew how
attractive they were as targets. After conversion to twisted pair in
the 50s, I kept a few of the old insulators.

Fast forward 50 years, and I am driving down a highway in Southern
Spain under construction, being widened. And off to the side, an
abandoned telephone line with poles pushed over almost horizontal as
part of the site preparation. I thought - Hey, here is a chance to
add some really exotic telephone insulators to my meager collection.
So, I stopped and examined several which were easily accessible.
After reading "Made in U. S. A." on all I could reach, I sadly
returned to my car and drove off empty handed.
