[Milsurplus] Little off-topic : glass insulators for radio antenna use?

Man, I have hundreds of these blue and green glass
insulators my dad got off the Erie Lackawanna railroad
during the re-electrification back in the early 1980s.
We cleaned them up to look pretty, and I have been
taking them to hamfests to sell for a buck a piece. I
sold a dozen or so to my elmer, he likes them as
antenna insulators for his ladder line. Other than
him, trying to find good homes for these is like
pulling teeth. I can barely give them away. But
these goobers at the hamfests pay $3 to $4 for smaller
ceramic insulators of smaller size all day long. Am I
missing something? Why don't more hammers use these
great insulators (they are heavy, and pretty!) for
more utilitarian purposes than sitting on the mantle
because the wifey thinks it looks pretty?
