Not everyone was neutral.
Brazil was a VERY active member of the Allied forces.
The Brazilian Navy was gifted a number of older US ships, including
submarines,
which they used in support of Allied operations to hunt U-boats in the south
Atlantic narrows (between the bulge of Brazil and the bulge of Africa).
The US Navy operated from a number of Brazilian airfields along with Brazilian
military aircraft in antisubmarine patrol operations. In addition, the
first US
Navy blimps to operate south of the equator ran convoy escort patrols out of
Brazilian bases.
