As folks over on GB and Regenx lists have demonstrated, along with 
Short Wave craft articles from the 1930s, and our own Dave Stinson's 
experiments here, vacuum tube receivers will work with B+ joltages down
to remarkablly low figures.

However, re the anecdote on running the command sets off 12 v stead of
24v, i'd probably have to see a real testimonial on that, because running
the heaters off 1/2 voltage does real bad things to the tube's operation.

I figured out the lamp voltage and cut a string apart to rewire it for 12 volts
for my van display. Maybe i'll do that again this year; thanks for the reminder.
If i remember, i think i got the string number slightly wrong, because they
would stop flashing if the battery voltage fluctuated downward.  -Hue
