The difficulty with operating dynamotors at half their rated input 
voltage is not so much that they won't put out a reasonable supply 
voltage, but that the voltage starts to wander all over the place with 
changes in load.  That may or may not cause a problem with the device 
being powered.  Best to try it and see!  Empirical solutions are usually 
the best.
