driving force behind it was "Surplus Al". He was a regular feature at 
hamfests for decades...well, he's gotten on in years, and does his

That is some pretty interesting history. ( Altho for a history hound,
"there's never enough details". )
I don't know if he's still in business at all, after his medical problems last
year.
I have some of a little publication he put out in the early 1980s.  I think it's
called "Surplus News".  A title that might seem odd to a non-Surplus Hound.
Like "day old bread", maybe.   There wasn't much in the way of  "news" in it,
more like descriptions of equipment. Anyway another interesting artifact of
