Joe,
That controls the audio output power. The LO position disables the high
output AF Amp tube V8, 3V4, by opening the plate lead and the filament
center-tap ground return. Audio is then fed by V6, 1U5, to the output
circuitry. It, as the manual states, reduced the current drain on both the A
and B batteries, prolonging battery life. If running from AC, I don't think
there is much advantage to one position over the other.
