yields nothing.  R-1289 shows up in some of Dennis Stark's "Military 
Collector Group Post" pages.

I have one of those, and I did find some references to the 
development of it on a web site dedicated to the engineer at GE who 
designed it as a commercial product.  It also appears in the Sams 
listings, in TR-something or other, which I need in order to identify 
the erratic component in mine.  Already resoldered that awful PC 
board, but it still puts out mostly erratic noise.  Funny thing was, 
mine initially worked right out of the box.
