[Milsurplus] ARC-39?

There was an article in ER some years ago concerning the ARC-39, I think
it was by Walt Hutchens.

I also have a nice one, looking inside one can see the command set
ancestry, looks like a command set "all grown up" with 50s components
and the usual high quality Aircraft Radio Corporation construction.

Crystal control is a bit of a problem, I scoured the junkbox for
usable HC-6 style crystals and managed to find a few that let
me tune the radio up on the ham bands, and even found one crystal
(5751) that let me put a channel on WWV(receive only) Did purchase
some crystals from JAN, allow for 3 weeks delivery. I've made a couple
of contacts on 40, but 15 watts AM on 75 is a a bit anemic, I'll
try it again in winter.

I also would like to find out the usage of the set, I have seen
one reference that it was installed in the HH-34 helicopter, IIRC
this was the Kaman Huskie. That was a pretty small airframe, the
antenna would have been pretty short. I doubt if you could have
installed an antenna much longer than 15 feet or so.

I'd be interested in the remote control box if anyone has one
laying around, the C-2241/ARC-39.
