And on the subject
of moral receivers, was their a military purchased radio available in
Vietnam for troop use?
Moral "shortwave" receivers were common on Navy vessels, they were not
needed on the ground in Vietnam because of the extensive AFRS setup(Armed
Forces Radio Network) "Good morning Vietnam" These AFRS stations
broadcasted on the standard AM Broadcast band .
There were even 3 C-121 aircraft that orbited with television stations
that would play movies etc.
Jap transistorized receivers were a mere pittance in the local PX and
every GI had one to his ear. In the field there were free receivers often
delivered to each man. airlifted in with the ammo, beer, and steaks.

I never missed an episode of chicken man which was played on Saigon AFRS
every morning at 0900, I usually caught it in the air on the ARN-6 ADF after
my third or fourth Special Forces short field run.
