Yes, I am aware of several receivers that were used in WWII that had HF
capabilities and several had a "loop" input that may or may not have been
disconnected when the receiver was tuned to a "HF" frequency. Actually any
receiver can be used for DF'ing as long as it has some sort of gain control
and the operator has the skills to detect an aural null and the navigator
has the skills to solve the 180 degree ambiguity problem.
Now I guess my question to the group is: Does anyone have any
documentation of a DF antenna that was installed in any military or civilian
aircraft that had published design specifications that the DF antenna was
to be used on any segment of the HF band 2.0 Mcs to 18 Mcs. Not special ops
but normal line mission aircraft.
