That is a standard Collins PTO aging problem.  There are a whole 
bunch of articles floating around about how to work over the PTO.  
Interestingly enough, my R-388 and 51J4 still track, but I had to 
realign the PTO in my low S/N (receiver = 35) S-Line a number of 
years ago.
