The GRC-9 was used in Viet Nam, mostly by MAAG and ARVN forces in the
early 1960s (concurrently with the PRC-10). It appears that the South
Vietnamese used them later into the war when large numbers ended up in
VC hands. They then were used to communicate to the Chicom type 102 and
103. [Source: Military Communications: A Test For Technology by Bergen]

"That almost makes it sound like the AN/GRC-9 saw significant actual
service use. Somehow, I never thought there was much real military
purpose to the AN/GRC-9, once reliable low-band VHF FM began to dominate
tactical communications (which was right at the time that the AN/GRC-9
first appeared).

I do like the AN/GRC-9 (much better than the ever-popular AN/GRC-109),
but where and why would the military have actually used it, even during
the Korean War?
