With regard to #2: I'm a big supporter of placing vintage equipment of all kinds in museums, where
it stands the best chance for long-term preservation and, most importantly, where it can perform an
educational service to the larger community. But I believe that museums have a concomitant
responsibility to make their collections available for viewing and to actively promote them.
I would suggest that anyone donating an item to a museum specify, in writing, that the item must be
maintained on public display (unless undergoing restoration, etc.), with all documentation made
available, and with detailed photos and related material posted on the museum's web site. If the
museum is unwilling or unable to meet those requirements - which I consider to be essential elements
of responsible stewardship - the donor should place his item with another museum where it will be
better appreciated.
