Nice essay MH!

Speaking of modeling....

Be a simple hoot to run MMANA or ElNec against the C47/C54 geometries &
compare against Sandretto's measurements of yore

I was on the antenna-match kick half year back. IE the proposition
that the only radiating component of an acft antenna is that which
can use the acft's fuselage as a symmetry mirror. IE, wire rising fm
cockpit to rudder is a top-loaded vertical dipole 2x rudder height
(newspeak, vert'l stabilizer). GOTSTA have that dipole moment
to sink power. W/o it system is like sound of one hand clapping.

Or was it Kodak moment?

Think the BC-442's vac. cap a big 'un to overcompensate for a antenna
'gone inductive' to make it capacitive again &, hence, 'trimmable'
by the command set's roller inductor. Remember 1st word in this
sentance was 'think.'

Someone credited ARC5@ w. a series cap to run a box-stock command set
w. a ham (50R) antenna. Well one thing lost & that's it oughta
be a variable so to cancel the link's Xl. Loading, & hence
R-matching, done w. rotating same link... which in theory acts like
a variably tapped inductor.

This was covered in '47 thru '50 ARRL hdbk.s. Maybe more. Subject was
using jurassic rigs w. coax cable.

Anyone have a BC608 FS/FT?
