I have two of 'em, and that's a good price. All the ones I have seen
are pretty shopworn, admittedly better than that one, and all spun-up
fine. Ear plugs is a very good idea - it's about the same as a subway
train running through the shack. (91 dB) I built a 3/4 inch thick
plywood box lined with 2 inch thick fiberglass, and that knocked it down
to 50 dB, which is very tolerable, merely a distant whine. You also
need ducts, about two feet long, also lined with 2 inch thick
fiberglass, for the air intake and exhaust. That thing throws off lots
of heat, and without good forced ventilation it will soon fry. I have a
squirrel cage fan inside, and now need a booster fan on the intake
because it's still a 15 degree F rise in there. Not bad in Winter, but
bad in Summer. Now that it's quiet in the shack, I can hear the
transformers in the power supply singing.
