OK. It looks like the TM 11-5280-xx is now pretty much understood. But it is the
latest system, and many of the manuals of interest are numbered using earlier
systems:
TM 11-xxx or TM 11-xxxx This appears to cover a lot of WW II gear. xxx
and xxxx are 3 or 4 digit numbers. There appears to me no system to them, but
they are just sequence numbers. An example is the BC-221's manual TM 11-300.
They cover both BC- and SCR- items. As far as I can tell, there are mostly no
suffix numbers, so this is pretty straight forward. I have seen one with a -34P
added, which I suspect is transitional.
Some of these manuals also carry a TO number, such as:
TO 16-30GR5-5,
TO 16-30PRC6-5
TO 31R2-2PRC-10
TO 31R2-2GRC9-1
TO 31R2-2GRC19-11
For these, does anyone have any clues what the numbers such as 16-30 & 31R2-2
signify? I suspect the -x at the end is a revision or version number, but again
I don't know.
There is yet another numbering system that might be called the AN system.
Examples are:
AN 08-30APN4-2
AN 16-30ARC3-2
AN 16-30ARC5-2
NAVWEPS 16-30ARC5-501
NAVAIR 16-30ARR41-501
NAVAER 16 30ARR41-403,
NAVWEPS 16-30ARR41-501
NAVWEPS 16-30ART13-5
It would seem that the AN = NAVAIR = NAVAER = NAVWEPS, but I'd like
confirmation. Does anyone know what the 08-30 and 16-30 signify? Those are
followed by the set designation and then a -xxx. Again, I have no clue as to
what the numbers following the dash signify. Any information would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
-John
