The "latest" photo of TBX in action i have seen is from Okinawa campaign.
The TBX's,
2 of them being used as net receivers, only, apparently, at this radio site,
were both
non-8's - these were whiteface meters. Of maybe 5 or so TBX in action photos
i've seen,
none have been -8's. Proves nothing, suggests maybe something.
The blackout meters accompanied the addition of radium paint to the panel
legends,
knobs, dials, and meters of the TBX-8. This was one of the improvements to
make it
a better war machine, altho not quite to our taste today, maybe. The
break-in keying,
1.5 volt tubes instead of 2 volt receiver tubes, 2-stage MOPA transmitter
verusus single
tube, those were all well worthwhile. -Hue Miller
