[Milsurplus] Re: Barans Surplus Email address?

I have had dealings with Baran.

At the MVPA convention in Dallas, I bought a GRC-106 from Baran and he
agreed to ship me a missing part, which was the contact assembly for the
tuning drum in the amplifier. Additionally, he guaranteed the unit to be in
working order with nothing wrong with it except the missing part.

He would not later return e-mails or phone messages. There was a power
problem with the RT unit and three broken items in the amplifier, which
were unknown to me at the time. These undisclosed faults prevented the unit
from working. Still no contact assembly nor any communication nor
recompense for the malfunctions of the 'guaranteed to work' unit.

Including the GRC106, I had spent about $700 with him that day. Almost
bought another radio on top of that, and now I am glad I did not! GRC-106's
were going for about $400 at the time. I suppose that does not matter
however. It's as easy to cheat someone who spends $700 as to cheat them out
of $5 when you are far away and out of touch the day after, eh? He should
have just told me it was broken or a parts unit. I might have still bought
it, for I am very good at fixing GRC-106's.

I gave up trying to get a response. I finally bought the parts from a
-reputable- dealer here in Texas and fixed the radio at my own time and
expense.

about 8 hours labor to replace the drum contact assembly, DC power
connection on the RT unit, the amplifier RF output tuning unit, and two
coils in the tuning drum which were found to be bad.

But let's not haggle about what my time is worth. The dishonorable behavior
of this dealer and the costs, about $120, of the parts I had to buy speak
for themselves.

good luck.
