=================
Would anyone on the list be interested in acquiring a pair
of SRT-14/15's? I have two of the tall racks and enough modules
to build about 2.5 SRT-14's (*), and power supplies and modulators
to upgrade to SRT-15. Also 2 original manuals. Some of the
modules are missing a few odds and ends, but there are tons of spares;
easily enough to build one, possibly two, very nice SRT-14/15's.

I'm a bit reluctant to let these things go--always fantasized operating
this transmitter teamed up with the equally complex and wonderful
FRR-59 receiver, but.. there just aren't enough years left to go through
all the terrific radios on hand here.

If you're interested in taking on a most entertaining project, please
let me know. Any reasonable offer considered! Obviously PICKUP ONLY
in Chapel Hill, NC; this will require a pretty serious truck, as each
tx weighs about 900#! I would not want to take on shipping these
things, but I'll help you load 'em.. :)

(*) If you're not familiar with these transmitters, they are truly
amazing rigs. Sporting some 70 vacuum tubes, they're fully
synthesized with 10 cps resolution. PA is a single 4-400. In
the SRT-14 configuration, this tube loafs along at 100W, modulated
by a pair of compact 807's. In -15 mode, the 807's drive a pair
of 4-125's (as I recall) and there's a higher voltage plate supply
to bring the power up to about 500W. Modes are AM, CW, FSK, FAX.
If I remember rightly, the FSK mode has on-board frequency shift
generation, so it may be possible to interface a 60 ma current loop
from a greenkeys machine straight into the beast.

These transmitters are stunningly, wonderfully complex. The "VFO"
which is a stiff 2-man carry, and which contains most of the tubes,
is a truly bizarre architecture involving multiplication up from a
single 100 Kc oven-stabilized crystal, dozens of mixers, interpolation
oscillators, and a lot of other stuff, organized into some dozen
modules, all connected to the tuning controls by a maze of gears,
shafts and chains. It's absolutely beautifully built. The PA
module has a line of the biggest slug-tuned coils you've ever seen,
driven by a clever arrangement of cams and racks-and-pinions. The
cabinet, which itself weighs more than I can lift even empty, contains
a pair of huge blowers and an intricate air channel system to bring
cooling air to the modules and carry exhaust out. There's even an
auxiliary heater to drive out moisture for operation in the tropics.
The manual is, I'm not kidding, an honest 6" thick.
