Hi Lloyd,
It's the antenna variometer for the WW II Wireless Set #19, the British
designed armored fighting vehicle radio that was manufactured in the UK and
in the US. The US production usually/always? has its markings in English
and Russian since the US production was intended for use in tanks we sent
to Russia.
The variometer is pretty much a necessity for proper use of the Mark II WS
#19 since it acts to filter out harmonic content, which would be somewhere
between high and Oh Wow without it, so I'm told. Price, well I bought a
slightly hacked one for $20 a couple of years ago but I imagine the usual
price for one that is complete and in good shape would be in the $40 range.
Very few people try to put the 19 sets on the air but it looks like it
would be a lot of fun so I intend to do that with mine... once I have the
time. I hope my variometer is salvageable.
73, Clare N2RJB
