Well, we're not saying the RUGF was set up in any foxhole. We do know for a
fact they
were installed in some vehicles, and i recall from the Marine SP gun, the
radio was
installed out of the way so there'd be no way anyone set on it. Road
vibration and
concussion from the guns must have done wonders for the GF set frequency.
I'd guess the RUGF vehicle use was in that period before FM came online.
Push-to-talk
FM intercom-like radio replaced that. But in the period it was needed, there
really
wasn't much in the category of simple to use, non-radio operator controlled,
voice
radio for vehicles. Some LINK HF vehicle radios like the 25 series and maybe
some
30-40 MHz police radios are the only options i can think of, dunno why they
didn't
go to these for mil vehicles more. -Hue Miller
