I felt the same way (although the TCS was installed in radio jeeps and at
least one armored vehicle). But couldn't think of another candidate in the Navy
inventory of the time (circa late '43). You could be right about the GF/RU.
Please look for the installation manual.
I'm sure that it has to have been HF. We've now seen two separate photos
that clearly show the MP-37 Antenna Mast Base and a full five-section compliment
of mast sections.
According to a book that I have on the M3 Half-track, the M3 GMC's were also
used on Saipan and Peleliu.
